Tru Earth Laundry Strips: Plastic Free and Eco-Friendly Detergent

Tru Earth Laundry Strips: Plastic Free and Eco-Friendly Detergent

People tend to have a love-hate relationship with their laundry routines. Many see it as an inconvenient chore, and others find great enjoyment in the process.
Regardless of your feelings toward laundry in general, this particular routine is one that can have a large impact on our environment.
Between the waste of plastic packaging used within the containers that hold both liquid and powder detergents, and the contamination of the water by the chemicals in those detergents, our laundry habits have a lot of room for improvement! Even as important as it is to reduce our plastic waste in a routine like laundry, we must also be aware of what ingredients we’re using and the impact those have on our environment and our personal health. Tru Earth Laundry Strips allow you to do both of these things!

NotPERFECTLINEN: An Ethical Brand For Everyday Life

NotPERFECTLINEN: An Ethical Brand For Everyday Life

Over the last couple years my eyes have been opened to the horror that is the fast fashion industry (you can read my blog posts about that here and here). It has become one of those things that I can’t un-know. And since watching The True Cost movie for the first time in 2019, I have made an intentional effort to buy less clothes overall, and to avoid fast fashion as much as possible.
When it comes to bringing new items into my wardrobe, I now give myself three options: to use what I already have and be thankful for it, realizing I don’t need anything more; shop secondhand at yard sales or thrift stores, so as not to create more demand for virgin resources necessary to create new items; or purchase from ethical, sustainable, fair-trade brands.
One brand that I have had the pleasure of working with this year is notPERFECTLINEN, and I’m excited to share about their business and products with you today.

Who Made My Clothes? Fashion Revolution Week 2021

Who Made My Clothes? Fashion Revolution Week 2021

Centered around the date of April 24, this week commemorates the anniversary of the 2013 Rana Plaza collapse.
The Rana Plaza was a large building in Savar, Bangladesh that housed a number of garment factories that manufactured clothing for some of the biggest global fast-fashion brands. Before the collapse, workers had alerted supervisors of structural issues around the building and of significant cracks that were visible throughout the structure; workers expressed their fear to enter the building and continue their work. The ground floor of the building housed retail shops and banks, and these shut down their operations during this time, but “the demand of an insatiable fashion industry forced garment workers to keep working”.

Why You Need to Throw Away Your Sunscreen

Why You Need to Throw Away Your Sunscreen

When you apply sunscreen, you are suppressing the body’s normal response to overexposure in which the skin reddens (an indicator to seek shade), and so putting your skin at greater risk for harm from overexposure. Obviously we don’t want to allow our skin to burn, which we can do without lathering our bodies in dangerous chemicals.
Sunscreens have three primary issues: they are powerful free radical generators, increasing cellular damage and changes that lead to disease; they have strong estrogenic activity, and interfere with normal hormone/sexual development; they contain synthetic chemicals that are alien to the human body and build-up in our fat…

Sunshine: Nature’s Best Vitamin (and It’s FREE!)

Sunshine: Nature’s Best Vitamin (and It’s FREE!)

Lack of sun exposure is actually one of the greatest risk factors for disease… If you look at statistics regarding skin cancer, you’ll find that the most dangerous skin cancers, melanomas, are more common in people who are indoors for the majority of the daytime. Some of the hottest places in the U.S. have the highest rates of skin cancer, not because they expose their skin to the sun, but because the extreme heat throughout much of the year keeps people indoors during the day. So, even though there’s plenty of sunlight, people avoid it and develop health problems including cancers from underexposure rather than overexposure. And cancerous lesions often appear on areas of the skin which are not typically (if ever) exposed to sunlight…

“What Now?”: Finding Joy and Peace on the Uncharted Journey

“What Now?”: Finding Joy and Peace on the Uncharted Journey

My journey is different because my destination is different.
And just because my journey is different does not mean that it is wrong.
Different journeys require different preparation, which requires not only different amounts of work but different kinds of work.

For me, the work that has been required in this season has been heart-work first and foremost; He been working *in* me, as much as *through* me.

God cares about my heart more than He cares about my hustle.
This work is the vital prerequisite work that must happen in order to reap all the blessing that is the natural consequence of God-given, and God-honoring, dreams.
